A few years ago, our founder was sitting in a quiet, sunlit studio in the outskirts of Tokyo. The artisan across the table handed over a freshly polished piece of indigo Edo Kiriko glass. As it caught the morning light, it didn’t just shine—it seemed to fracture the light into a thousand miniature rainbows. But it was when the artisan gently tapped the rim that the magic happened. The glass let out a clear, high-pitched, almost melancholic ring that lingered in the quiet room for what felt like eternity.

"That," the artisan said with a soft smile, "is the sound of a crystal that has been cut perfectly by hand. Machine-made glass is always silent."

Later that week, we traveled to a centuries-old kiln town, where the air smelled of woodsmoke and damp earth. There, we held a designer’s ceramic bowl. It wasn’t perfectly symmetrical. The glaze had unpredictable, beautiful ripples from the fire—a living testament to the Wabi-Sabi philosophy of finding perfection in imperfection.
